We would like to add a Space Propulsion Systems Engineer to our on-site team. The incumbent will support the NASA Systems Engineering Directorate at NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA.

Job Description

The successful applicant will provide technical expertise and past experience to the system engineering directorate for satellite propulsion system development at NASA and duties will include:

  • Develop propulsion concepts for new science satellite bus design including propellant selection, storage, delivery, and thruster design.
  • Perform trade studies using key design metrics such as weight, cost, and mission requirements and develop the concepts to a final design.
  • Advance chosen concepts to a detailed design level.
  • Develop project planning and budgeting for the lifecycle of the propulsion system.
  • Plan and coordinate propulsion subsystem design activities and report out on progress to the satellite development project office.
  • Develop test and verification planning for the propulsion system design.
  • Document propulsion system development details.
  • Provide briefings to management and other design groups as required.

Education and Qualifications

  • BS (MS preferred) in aerospace/aeronautical/mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in design, planning, tracking, and reporting progress toward completion of propulsion systems development activities in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prior experience with satellite bus propulsion system project management, design, or analysis preferred.
  • 5-10 years of industry experience preferred.
  • 5-10 years of industry experience preferred
  • Candidate must be willing to relocate to the Hampton, VA area
